South Bend Pocket Watches
In the 1920s the South Bend Watch Company employed a marketing technique that played off the fame of the Studebaker name. A "Studebaker" watch was sold mail order for just a dollar down. The mail order Studebaker watches were in fact the same South Bend watches made on the same production line. The depression came ending the mail order marketing and coupled with the fact that South Bend never made a wrist watch caused the company to fold after the 1929 stock market crash. A side note is that all South bend watches carried a lifetime guarantee and in fact many South Bend watches are still running today
